Jack McGlynn goal: The shot could not be more in the upper corner. It is a laser of a shot from the Philadelphia Union midfielder. McGlynn might have scored one of the top ten goals of the 2024 MLS season already.
Watch the Jack McGlynn goal in the video below. He doesn’t even seem surprised at how the shot picked out the upper left corner, perfectly.
McGlynn is just 20 years old. With plenty of European clubs trying to sign him. Dutch club PSV Eindhoven have already tried to grab him. He has played 78 games for the Union so far and maintains a 85% passing accuracy average. He’s a player who could help teams build out of the back and score goals as well.
What stands out though is his ability to play through balls and shoot from long distances. Clearly this is evident in this rocket of a shot by McGlynn versus D.C. United.
Funny enough, he does remind you of a few former and current Manchester United midfielders. Players who act like metronomes, keeping the rhythm and possession for the team. Steady and smart players – those who play simple. Also, players who are kind of tall and lanky and calm on the ball. McGlynn could fit right in at a club like Manchester United.
McGlynn reminds you of players like Nemanja Matić, Darren Fletcher, Scott McTominay and most notably, Michael Carrick.
Moreover, in a way, McGlynn is like one of those English players who grew up playing a lot of street soccer and or in local parks. He’s from Queens, New York and always had a ball at his foot.
Obviously, McGlynn has the vision to make the right passes but can he do it while under the intense pressure of the English Premier league or somewhere else in Europe? This is lofty, but he does have that Sergio Busquets casual coolness when he’s on the soccer ball. I wonder what player McGlynn looks up to and modeled his style of play after?
Overall, McGlynn has an opportunity to really make himself known if he makes the United States Olympic team this summer. However, as you can imagine with his very Irish last name, he is Irish eligible and would get more playing time joining up with Ireland’s national team.
Perhaps being left footed will boost his chances of joining a European side, too. He has the ability to cut in on the right and smash home a shot like the one above.
