From May 9-11, Coerver led a intensive three-day coaching course for 45 Brazilian coaches from across the country. Participants dove into six core Coerver modules, blending theoretical sessions with practical drills. A highlight was a hands-on training session with local players from Karamba, a renowned Rio organization with deep ties to Botafogo Football Club and a track record of nurturing professional talents. Coerver Director Brad Douglass hailed the experience as “amazing,” crediting FIFA and adidas for their unwavering support of grassroots and social initiatives.[2] This exchange not only equipped coaches with cutting-edge tools but also sparked a ripple effect, enabling them to replicate Coerver’s skill-focused methods in their own communities.
The partnership deepened in Brazil’s north-east, where Coerver’s methodology became the backbone of the Sociedade de Assistência à Criança (SOAF) initiative, “Cidadania em Campo.” Operating in the underserved neighborhood of Francisca do Socorro in Milagres, Ceará, the program targeted 250 socially vulnerable children and teens, ultimately reaching 205 participants and impacting 446 families.[3] Launched with FIFA Foundation support in 2017-2018 and running through 2019, it used Coerver’s structured drills to build cognitive, decision-making, and leadership skills while promoting solidarity and diversity.
Activities went beyond the pitch: family reflection sessions encouraged dialogue on life lessons drawn from games, and outreach extended to rural areas to foster community ties. The results were striking—low dropout rates among participants and stronger intergenerational bonds—proving soccer’s power to instill hope in regions marked by poverty since SOAF’s founding in 1987.[3] By embedding Coerver’s proven techniques into these efforts, FIFA amplified its social mission, turning pitches into platforms for empowerment.
