Four Targets Drill

Field size: 40 yards by 30 yards

Number of players: 12 players working at a time; if you have a full team, split into two groups

Age range: 10-12

Description:  Players are targets at every corner of a square with 2 bumpers on the side and 3 versus 3 in the middle.  One team attacks one direction – towards two targets and points are scored when a team plays the ball to a target player.

Once they play the ball is played into a target player they have to turn and go in the opposite direction. So you get one point for the ball into the target player but have to move the ball in the other direction at that point.  Bumpers on the sides play for both teams and are limited to one or two touches, supporting the attacking team.

Work on combination play with the bumpers on the side and then serving in a long balls to a target player, and always have a player supporting the long pass so they can turn and go in the other direction.

Target players should play the ball in one or two touches. In a sense, this is really just a possession game but with target players and bumpers on the side.  Target players can use up the whole end line of space rather than just stand at the corners, so they are much like bumpers.

Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests.
