Emma Sears is fast. That is obvious. But she can score goals and create chances, too. When someone can dribble at speed and score goals they are an incredible value to a soccer team. Sears is that for her Racing Louisville FC side in the women’s pro soccer league.
But she should also be a part of the women’s Olympic soccer team this summer in Paris. And even the United States women’s national team. Sears is fast and that is something that will throw off any defense in soccer. They always have to be aware of a long ball or where someone with the speed of Sears is on the field.
Here, Racing Louisville forward Emma Sears notched her first professional goal in grand fashion in a 5-1 win over Utah. If you watch Sears play soccer you instantly ask yourself, who is that player, she’s very fast and so good? See evidence below:
Along with Sears, some of the other speedy players in women’s pro soccer are Lynn Williams, Mal Swanson, Alyssa Thompson, and Alex Morgan. I wonder just who the fastest player in the league is now with new rookies, like Sears.
In a way, Sears is similar to another young women’s soccer star who is very fast as well: Trinity Rodman. Both players just tend to cause havoc on the soccer field – in a good way! They will drive right at defenders on the dribble, which defenders hate.
Additionally, they are often disrupting the opposing teams’ defenses in the attacking third – not just with their speed but their relentless effort. Sears and Rodman are players you have to keep your eyes on at all times on the soccer field. Sure, Sears is not yet at Rodman’s level of play, but she will get there soon.

Of course, the thing with speed in soccer is what you can do with it in a high level game? In the sense that, yeah someone can be super fast, but maybe they don’t have good dribbling skills or control. Therefore, it is often that they might get into good attacking spots but struggle to score clear chances. Their first touch lets them down. Sears is young but has skills on the soccer ball.
Apparently defender Abby Erceg of Racing Louisville FC is second to Sears in terms of fastest player on the team. However, Sears has said she doesn’t plan on giving up the fastest player on the team title anytime soon.
What’s funny is Sears has talked about adjusting to the speed of play of the NWSL versus playing college soccer at Ohio State. This was after her first two months of playing pro soccer. It is clear now she didn’t need much time to adjust. Moreover, other NWSL teams are going to have to adjust to her speed!
In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if another team tries to sign her or steal her away from Racing Louisville FC soon. Officially, Sears clocked in at 20.92 MPH…. Emma Sears is FAST!
