Harry Maguire the Winger

Harry Maguire the Winger

Harry Maguire’s cross is flicked on by Manuel Ugarte to Casemiro for the Manchester United goal. Will Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim put him out on the wing now? Fans might demand it late in the game if Manchester United are losing. He even has a new nickname now: Harrydinho.

It’s almost funny because Maguire could’ve just laid the ball back to Alejandro Garnacho for the cross. But instead he went again to cut down the line and cross the ball into the box after a fake cross.

And you almost have to feel bad for Mikel Jauregizar, who is beat not once, but twice by the Manchester United center back, or I should say winger.

Overall, Jauregizar must’ve thought there’s no way this oversized center back can beat me down the line for a cross. Perhaps that’s why he dives in and is suckered by the initial Maguire fake cross. He just doesn’t think Maguire has the skills to beat him on the dribble. However, it’s a general rule in defending to keep the attacker in front of you – not dive in.

Watch the Harry Maguire cross in the video below. Again, Athletic Bilbao’s Jauregizar is completely sold on the initial Maguire fake cross. Additionally, Ugarte gets up in the air really well to head the ball on to Casemiro.

I’m guessing we’ll see Maguire venturing upfield more often in the coming games. As many have said though, it’s a good story for Maguire who has struggled at times in his consistency at Manchester United. He has now earned the respect and praise from the fans. He is known to score goals late in the game playing upfront, and now he’s shown he can play on the wing and cross the ball into the box. Oh, he’s also done well playing center back!

Harry Maguire reflects on Manchester United’s impressive first-leg performance in the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League semifinals versus Athletic Club in Bilbao and the rise of his new nickname: Harrydinho.

Harry Maguire told ESPN that Man United owe fans a trophy after their poor English Premier league season:

”It’s been a difficult season. It’s been a disappointing season but of course football is about memories, it’s about creating memories, it’s about winning trophies and we have a great opportunity to win a trophy. For our fans, it’s what they deserve, so that’s the most important thing.”

In the end, the Maguire cross is brilliant and one he won’t forget when he retires from the game.
