Quick fire shooting drill: turn, shoot and score:
Field size: 30 yards by 20 yards or penalty box area
Number of players: full team with one player working at a time
Age range: 10-12
Description: Line up a row of soccer balls near the penalty spot and players take turns shooting the ball on goal in quick succession against a keeper.
Place the soccer balls in a row near the penalty box and the shooter strikes through each ball as fast as possible, one after the other. The shooter is looking to place the balls low and into the corners. The key is to hit the ball on target and make the keeper make a save.
Keep track of totals for each player, perhaps do this drill while you’re doing another drill. Just pull players over to do the take their shots while you’re doing a possession drill, maybe pull two players at a time. Shoot with the right foot one round and then the left the next. Give players a chance to beat their score by doing this drill in another three months.
Keepers get a good workout in this drill too, as they are taking rapid fire shots and have to react quickly.
Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests.
Back to goal? No problem. Beat the defender and goalkeeper like Zlatan with this drill from Edu Rubio, MK Dons’ head of academy coaching.
