Carlos Vela with a wonderful goal for Arenal versus Burnley. Calm and cool on the ball as he glides through the defense and finishes. Mexico hasn’t had very much good news of late, and Arsenal as well for that matter, but this goal gives both Mexico and Arsenal some joy, as they know that this young player will do many more good things for both club and country.
At just 20 years of age, Vela, the Mexican international, nutmegs the defender and then calmly chips the keeper for the first goal in this FA Cup match. Arsenal went on to win 2-0. I sometimes forget that Vela even played for Arsenal. It’s somewhat a shame that he didn’t have a longer and bigger pro soccer career in Europe. From SkySports, this is what Arsenal manager Arense Wenger said about Vela’s potential: “He is naturally gifted, quick, intelligent and with very good technique,” the Frenchman said after Vela marked his full Arsenal debut with a stunning hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Sheffield United, “so now you want him to add that combative, determined side that makes the difference. He’ll quickly be a world-class striker when he adds that to his game.” |
