At 22 years old Palmer has shown the ability to make the killer pass like this numerous times before.
But he is a unique midfielder in that he is always looking forward and trying to attack. He knows how to keep possession, of course, but he is a special footballer in the way he unlocks defenses. He has an eyes in the back of his head type of awareness.
Palmer’s height at 6’1” is above average for a midfielder. Moreover, he’s quite skinny. Again, though, he knows how to shield the ball and use his body to protect it. Overall, a soccer skill – shielding – that should get more attention.
What a sensational signing he has been for Chelsea. Pep Guardiola watches this through pass with some regret!
Guardiola admitted he didn’t give Palmer the minutes that he deserved but couldn’t keep him at Manchester City. From ESPN:
“He was asking for two seasons to leave and I said stay. He said he wanted to leave. What could we do? I said stay because Riyad [Mahrez] is gone, but for two seasons he wanted to leave.”

Finally, it will be interesting to see how new England manager Thomas Tuchel uses Palmer. His recent form shows that he should be a starter, no doubt. There will be a Cole Palmer through ball like this in an England game soon.
