Continuous 3 v 2 Shooting Drill

Continuous 3 v 2 Shooting Drill

Field size: 30 yards by 20 yards

Number of players: full team with 5 players in each working group

Age range: 10-12

Description: Use the penalty box area and move both big goals up, so you’re playing with two big goals just in the penalty box area, and can work on finishing.

Three players take on two players and try to score on goal. If the defense wins the ball, then the player who lost the ball joins the two defenders and goes in the opposite direction to score against the now two defenders on the other end.  Or, you can make it so whoever takes the shot or scores, joins the defenders when they go in the other direction.

Players should try to use overlaps, give and goes, dribble exchanges, and look to find the open player by playing the ball quickly and not taking too many touches.

Coach can put a time limit on the play too, so players have to go to goal fast and can’t hold on to the ball too long as they try to wait for the perfect shot. Instead, players should take advantage of the player advantage and go to goal as fast as possible. If you wait too long in a game then more players will get back to help out their teammates.

Players will need to transition quickly to defense from offense. Rotate out the working group after five to ten shots are taken.

Also work on getting the ball out wide and cutting it back across the goal to a teammate.

Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests.
