The handball by Fabregas seemed to be the downfall for Arsenal as they gave up their 2-0 lead at Emirates Stadium. Rafael Van der Vaart stepped up for a free kick and tried to bend the ball up and over the wall, but Fabregas, who was on the outside corner of the wall sort of held up his arm to block the shot. Fabregas claimed he was trying to protect his face but it was an easy call for the referee and he pointed to the penalty spot. You do see players hold their arm up over their face, however, the player can’t extend the arm to block the shot. For Arsenal, it was another good showing for stretches of the game yet they always lack the killer punch and resolve to hold off teams even when they have a lead.
