I’m starting to warm up to Arsenal these days, since they’re looked upon as underdogs and how they’ve scrambled together a star studded but rag tag group of players since Fabregas and Nasri deserted them. They fought hard throughout their Champions League match today versus Borussia Dortmund, even ceding the possession to the Germans for the most part (Dortmund had the ball 57% of the time). Arsenal held on until the final few minutes, when a ball was cleared out and hung in the air just long enough for Ivan Perisic to score the goal of his life and to tie the game 1-1. Van Persie got the goal in the first half Arsenal: slotting the ball to the near post after poking the ball away from the defender he darted forward to receive the ball back from Theo Walcott. Now Arsene Wenger can relax a little bit, although I don’t know if this rag tag crew has enough in their tank to do too much damage in the Champions League or the English Premier league. For me though, as underdogs, if they battle like they did today, I’ll root for them. And here’s another Ivan Perisic volley. |
