Kangaroo Jumps

Field size: 30 yards by 20 yards

Number of players: full team

Age range: 5-6

Description: Place five or six cones within a square and players have to jump over the cones and sprint off in a different direction, right or left, whenever they come across one of these cones in the square.

Players start out just jogging around in the square until you start the game. This is a good warm up drill since it includes running and jumping.

Later, have players hop over the cones with one foot.

Use the soccer ball whenever possible when you’re doing a warm up drill, but in this case you’re doing some agility work so the ball isn’t necessary.

Next, have players jump over the cone and back before they sprint away for four or five yards.

Finally, bring the ball into the drill, where you have players dribble around the square and whenever they come across a cone they have to jump over the cone before they can dribble again.

Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests.

Extra: A real live kangaroo made some jumps. A kangaroo interrupted a soccer match in Australia Sunday. The unwelcome visitor disrupted game play for over 30 minutes and video shows the animal apparently using his long hind legs and powerful tail to deflect balls from the goal area.
