Mbappe’s record breaking day

Kylian Mbappe scores five goals to add to his history at PSG.

It is no surprise to read a headline that includes the name of Kylian Mbappe, but it’s not always connected to five goals, in one game!  Yes you read that right, Kylian scored five goals in one game.  And to be fair, he made them all look pretty routine.

However, if you look at all the goals, the final goal is a true strikers’ goal.  It’s a goal that he scores easily but requires a two very important aspects of an offensive attack.

One, it requires the player with the ball on the outside to see an opportunity to cross the ball behind the defenders.  Overall, this is not a terribly difficult ball to play, but timing it and executing it, at exactly the right time, requires vision and conviction.

Two, the striker getting into a position that allows them to have a first time shot attempt on goal.  Whether near or far post, this is the ability of the striker, to lurk and choose where they will be, in hopes of eye contact being made with their outside player.  Once this is made, is when the magic happens.

Without the two working together the opportunity does not arise or happen.  Make sure to watch the video until the last goal Mbappe scores.  And when you do, think about the timing and positioning of the cross and the finish.  It is by no mistake that everything ends with a goal.
