Mike Magee Playing Goalkeeper Saves the LA Galaxy

Mike Magee playing goalkeeper. Magee the goalkeeping hero. Lost in all the excitement of the Gold Cup final, the Los Angles Galaxy had an interesting match versus the San Jose Earthquakes. Magee not as a striker but as a keeper.

What with their starting keeper Donovan Ricketts getting injured and then their second string keeper Josh Saunders earning a red card for throwing an elbow, the goal keeping duties fell to forward Mike Magee.

What would have been incredibly awesome was if David Beckham was forced to play in goal. But Becks wasn’t even in the team as he’s still suffering from back spasms.

Magee, amazingly, held firm and kept a clean shirt as the Galaxy tied the Earthquakes 0-0. This is pretty sad for San Jose, they couldn’t even score on a non-keeper?

The absurd part is the red card on Saunders, not sure how Steven Lenhart got away with sticking his head in there to try to win the ball. Lenhart is the one who should have gotten the call. In the end though, how on earth doesn’t San Jose score on Magee? That is just terrible. And the LA fans have to remind them when they play them again – you couldn’t even score on us when we had our forward playing in goal. Ha.

It’s a shutout for Mike Magee while playing keeper.

LA Galaxy midfielder Mike Magee assumes goalkeeper responsibilities after an injury to Donovan Rickets and a red card ejection of Josh Saunders. Magee helps his team earn a road point at San Jose Earthquakes.
