Field size: 30 yards by 20 yards Number of players: full team, split up into groups of four Age range: 8-10 Description: Players pass the ball around a square, two touches for each player. Players should check back to the ball and turn their bodies to pass the ball to the next person. Later, change the direction players are going and have players use their other foot to play the ball around the square. Time each group and see how fast they can move the ball around the square. Try switching it up and have one player dribble the length of their side and the next player pass. Also, you can extend the square and turn it into a rectangle, so players are passing at the sides and then dribbling the wide stretches. Having players pass the soccer ball around a square or a rectangle gives the players some structure, rather than just having them separate off into groups and passing the ball. As players get the hang of the drill, see if they can move the ball around the square with each player just using one touch or by using just their weaker foot. For a dribbling drill, try dribbling geometry. Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests. Extra: Here’s another good passing drill. Pay attention to this drill from Coerver Coaching and you’ll be fizzing the ball around the opposition just like Spain. |
