Shooting with Chaser

Field size: penalty box area; start at the top of the penalty arc

Number of players: full team

Age range: 14-16

Description: This is a shooting drill with a chaser five yards behind them.  This drill makes the shooter think about his shot and makes the drill more game realistic.

A player or coach plays the ball from behind towards the shooter to the left, right and then down the middle, while a chaser gets ready to try to win the ball.

Shooters should take one or two touches to strike the ball.  Keepers rotate after a few shots are taken.  This drill is mainly for the shooters, and the chasers are really just there to make the shooters think about their shots a little more – no drill should really be too casual, but should have some element of intensity to it.

Another option is to form a line to at the top of the penalty arc and play a one two with a coach or player who stands off to the side. Once the coach or player touches the ball then the chaser is released and can win the ball from the shooter. The chaser lines is five yards away from the shooter line.

Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests.
