Short Short Long Heading

Field size: 20 yards by 20 yards

Number of players: full team but separate into groups of 3

Age range: 10-12

Description: Three players work together to keep the ball up in the air.  Two of the players are about ten to fifteen yards apart and the third player stands in the middle of the two.  Start out tossing the ball to each partner and then lead into continuously heading the ball and keeping it up in the air. The player in the middle has to run to support the long header pass.

The first player tosses the ball to the player closest to him or her who then heads the ball back to the server who heads the ball back to the player who then heads the ball to the player furthest away.

So it’s two short (head) passes and then one long header, so player in the middle moves closer to the player to make the two head passes and then turns and runs to support the player behind him or her after the long header.

Switch out the player in the middle after a few rounds.

See how many consecutive headers these groups can get in one round.

Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests.
