Once you’ve laced up your shoes and grabbed your soccer ball and are ready to head off to soccer practice, check and make sure youj’ve got everything you need in your soccer bag.
Here are some important accessories that every young soccer player should have in their kitbag.
Sunscreen – You don’t want to show up at school on Monday looking like a raspberry because you didn’t wear sunscreen at your soccer tournament. Keep a bottle handy and remember to re-apply often to avoid sunburn.
Spare Shin Guards – There always seems to be one player on the team that forgets their guards! You can come to the rescue if there’s an extra pair in your bag. Plus don’t forget some guards may become uncomfortable if it’s been raining hard so your shins will appreciate a switch!
Replacement Studs – If you wear soft ground cleats it’s always a good idea to have a few spare studs and a stud-key in your bag. That way if you loose one in the grass or one comes loose you won’t have to worry about playing with missing studs.
Extra Shoe Laces – Even if your Nike tiempo legends are brand new there’s always a chance of snapping a lace if you get tangled up with another player. You can save some from an old pair of shoes. They could save the day!
Snacks – When you need a little energy boost at half time or before the game; small snacks like granola bars, fresh or dried fruit are a great way to keep your engine running. Avoid foods that could upset your stomach.
A Small Towel – After a game use a small towel or rag to clean any excess dirt from your cleats. Taking care of your soccer shoes will help them last much longer. If your shoes are wet, it’s not a good idea to just throw them in a bag and forget about them until your next game!
Sweat Jacket – You never know when the weather can change from sunny skies to showers. It’s always good to keep an extra sweat jacket in your bag just in case the weather turns on you. And, it’s a good idea to wear a jacket after practice when you’re sweaty and the sun starts to go down.
It’s important to stay hydrated for soccer. Your coaches should provide you with plenty of water. Sports drinks may also be useful to replace electrolytes lost through sweat and are an easy source of energy for tired muscles.
