Two Missed Penalties Back to Back

First Gerard Pique pulls down Oscar Cardozo. How did Pique think he was going to get away with this? And he’s had such a good tournament. But thankfully for Pique, Cardozo’s kick was saved by Iker Casillas.

The shot of Cardozo’s eyes at the 47 second mark of the video below is brilliant. Feel bad for him and it was good to see the Spanish players consoling him after the match.

Then, less than two minutes later, David Villa is taken down in the box by Antolin Alcoraz and Xabi Alonso steps up and scores from the spot. But some Spanish players moved too early, came into the box, and Alonso had to retake the penalty. This time Paraguay’s keeper Justo Villar guessed right, but the rebound went to Cesc Fabregas, who he fouled but it wasn’t called. The ball went to Sergio Ramos, whose shot was cleared of the goal line by Paraguay’s defender Paulo Da Silva

What more could you ask for? Just a game winner off both posts by David Villa. Who now looks like the steal of the century by Barcelona.
