Yamal Outside of the Foot Pass to Olmo

Yamal Outside of the Foot Pass to Olmo

Lamine Yamal outside of the foot pass to Dani Olmo. A thing of beauty from Barcelona’s Yamal. If there is an assist of the year in La Liga, this bending pass by the Yamal should win it.

The pass by Yamal to Olmo is also know as a trivela. A trivela of course is a technique where you strike the ball with the outside of the foot to bend the ball.

Many are saying Yamal is the best soccer player in the world right now. I think if you asked Lionel Messi he’d agree.

Watch the Lamine Yamal outside of the foot pass to Dani Olmo in the video below from ESPN. Yamal splits the pass between Espanyol defenders Jofre Carreras and Carlos Romero with the outside of his foot before they know it.

As the announcer says, the overlapping run by Héctor Fort opens up the space and gives Yamal a bit more time. However, what’s impressive about the outside of the foot pass by Yamal is how he doesn’t hesitate to make the play. The overlapping run does distract the defense, but Yamal has already seen the run by Olmo and makes the pass incredibly fast.

It really is a diamond of a pass. The first time finish by Olmo brilliant too. The Espanyol keeper gets a hand on it but it is hit with too much pace and comes at him so fast from close range. The Espanyol defender marking Olmo tries to step up at the last minute to get an offsides call. But Olmo has timed his run to perfection.

Overall, what a good signing Olmo has been for Barcelona. It’s clear him and Yamal have a good understanding. Olmo even points to where he wants the ball. In a blink of an eye the ball is there at his foot. Olmo then smashes the ball to the near post.

Finally, it helped that the two played together during the recent Euro tournament for Spain. That certainly helped speed up the process of understanding one another’s game. And based on just this play that telepathic understanding is pretty fined tuned already.

Barcelona won the match versus Espanyol 3-1, finishing the game with 77% possession.
