With London 2012 taking place on home soil, all eyes are on Team Great Britain at this summer’s Olympic games. And with billions of people around the world watching their every move, it’s a good thing that Britain’s athletes have such a stylish uniform to wear.
Team GB’s kit was designed by Stella McCartney, who worked in collaboration with Adidas. The fashion designer has combined fashion and functionality to create a look that is cutting-edge as well as sporty. Traditional Yet Modern Design McCartney’s range has a classically British feel to it whilst also seeming fresh and modern. The blue, white and red collection includes the football team’s striking kit, which features the Union Jack on the shirt. A Great British Football Team Manchester United star Ryan Giggs is the captain of Team GB’s football squad, which includes Daniel Sturridge, Jack Butland, Jason Steele, Ryan Bertrand, Steven Caulker and Craig Dawson. There was some shock when manager Stuart Pearce announced the team because many expected him to select England legend David Beckham. Becks had helped London’s campaign to secure the Olympics and would have undoubtedly been proud to pull on the Team GB kit. However, Pearce was only allowed to pick three players over the age of 23 and he chose Giggs, Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards instead. A Matching Uniform for Team GB As well as designing the football kit, McCartney has also created stunning sports wear for the whole of Team GB, including a range high-performance shorts and tops for track and field stars such as heptathlete Jessica Ennis. There are also blue trousers with blue and white shirts for the male gymnasts and fitted outfits for the cyclists. In total, the collection features 175,000 items for the 500 Olympians and 350 Paralympic athletes who will be taking part in the games. With a uniform designed by one of Britain’s leading designers – and the daughter of Sir Paul McCartney – Team GB are certainly dressed for success. Let’s hope the athletes can put in a performance that is as excellent as their new kits. |
