Christen Press Scores Goals Like Marta

Christen Press scored a wonderful goal versus France in the Algarve Cup in Portugal. Watch Press pick the soccer ball up at half field and slice through three French defenders before calmly passing the ball into the back of the net. And notice the cut and change of pace, nobody can keep up with her. Sort of reminds you a bit of how Marta scores goals for Brazil. Press really hasn’t reached her potential just yet. She’s capable of being one of the best women’s soccer players in the world if she keeps scoring goals like this.

Young soccer players, the last part is the most important: you don’t need to smash the ball when you shoot, sometimes all you have to do is pass it past the goalkeeper. Don’t make it harder than it is. Sometimes you just have to slow down for the half second right before you shoot.

I’m sure this goal is going to give Christen Press a lot of confidence heading into the women’s World Cup this summer. In the past, Press has been compared to some of the best women’s soccer players in the world, and often said to be the next Mia Hamm.

Clearly Press can become the star of the women’s national team, but she has yet to reach the consistency that players on the team have, like Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan for example, two players who show up every game and score and create chances. If Press can keep scoring goals though, and in big games like this, then she’ll become the new star of women’s soccer.
