You’d think Costa Rica’s David Guzman would ease off a bit on his Portland Timbers teammate Darlington Nagbe, but no, not when their facing off in a World Cup qualifier. It seems pretty clear that Guzman was going right after Nagbe’s leg here, and he should have gotten at least a yellow card.
I don’t know if Guzman was trying to hurt Nagbe, but maybe. Or, there’s the chance that he was just fired up for the game and got a rush of blood to the head, as they say, and want in too hard on the tackle. Still though, it’s a bad challenge, very clumsy, and Nagbe could have been badly hurt. I wonder what the two teammates will say to each other after the game or at the next Timbers training session. It’s ugly, look how Guzman’s studs go right into Nagbe’s calf area and force his leg down so he nearly twists his ankle too.
Plus, there’s a big chance that Nagbe will get a high transfer fee in the coming months or next year. If you’re the Portland Timbers, you don’t want your star player ever to get hurt, but certainly not when he’s bound to earn the team a lot of money in a transfer for a club in Europe. |
