Luis Suarez Refuses to Shake Evra’s Hand

Leading up to the Manchester United versus Liverpool match all the talk was about how Suarez and Evra would get along and if they would shake hands before the match. Well, Suarez decided not to and that set the tone for the match. In the end, Rooney came through for United with two goals and Evra celebrated in front of Suarez after the match was over. Here’s a better video of the incident if the video below doesn’t work.

This is what Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson had to say about Luis Suarez refusal to shake Evra’s hand. Some pretty strong words but then again Ferguson has a history of sort of playing mind games with other teams and opposing players:

“I couldn’t believe, I just could not believe it,” Ferguson told Sky Sports. “Patrice told me this morning, ‘I’m going to shake his hand, I’ve nothing to be ashamed of.’ But then Suarez refuses. He’s a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club.

“Some players should not be allowed to play for Liverpool again, the history that club’s got, and he does that. In a situation like today he could have caused a riot.

“I was really disappointed in that guy, it was terrible what he did. It created tension, you saw the referee, he didn’t know what to do about it. It caught him off guard.

“It was a terrible start to the game and a terrible atmosphere it created.”
