Usually Barcelona plays with 4 defenders in the back, but with injuries to Pique and Puyol, perhaps Pep Guardiola was forced to try a new formation. However, Guardiola has always stated that “possession is the best form of defense”, so in the end their formation doesn’t really matter that much, they’re always looking to keep the soccer ball.
