Best Players Who’ve Ever Played in the MLS

MLS Reserve presented by Wells Fargo brings you every club’s best player in the history of their franchise. Landon Donovan, Taylor Twellman, Carlos Vela are a few of the best, who did we get right and who did we get wrong?

For me, the best player of all time in the MLS plays for the Portland Timbers and his name is Diego Valeri. Portland should be a statue of the man outside the front of the stadium already. Not only does Valeri score goals but he sets up teammates and reads the game like no other player in the league.

Who do you like watching play?

Here’s a list of the players who had the biggest impact in the MLS, consistently performing at a high level and setting the standard for players to come.

Sure, there are a few names on the list who haven’t even played in the league that long, but their short stints thus far warranted adding them to the list, since they’ve already made a big impact and the signs are there that they’ll do much more.  Players like Alidore of the Red Bulls, his time in the MLS be short though as Europe will come calling soon.

Then you have names like Beckham and Blanco.  Where they’ve yet to win a title, or even have ten games under their belt, but you know what they’re capable of doing already. What stands out in this short list is that each player played with his own unique style–and had something, whether it was the way they cut the ball like Preki or held on to the ball so smoothly like Moreno, all bring something that makes you want to watch them play.
