United States Versus Brazil Penalty Shootout 2011 World Cup

Perhaps one of the most amazing games in soccer history, both men’s and women’s, ends in a shootout, with the USA coming out on top.

Boxx had her first shot saved, but the Brazilian keeper moving to early off the line, perhaps the same call made on Hope Solo in regulation time, at least the referee was consistant. Boxx stepped up and slotted the retake into the upper corner. The rest of the Americans were all on target: Lloyd, Wambach and Rapinoe all scored and Ali Krieger got the game winner.

Daiane, the Brazilian defender who scored the own goal, had her penalty saved by Solo. What a tough game it was for the defender. I wonder if the Brazilian coach should have put her in the first five to even take a penalty.
