What’s scary is now Palmer is showing that he can score from set pieces. Free kicks. He’s already shown he can score from anywhere else on the field. From chip shots over the keeper to passing the ball into the net on a breakaway.
I’ve mentioned this before but Manchester City and Pep Guardiola must be kind of wishing they could rethink what they’ve done in letting Palmer leave. After all, Manchester City could you use a goal scorer like Palmer right now. They have Haaland of course, but need another player who can score consistently.
I wonder if the Chelsea manager thought of taking Cole Palmer off the field after he scored four goals in the first half. Give him a rest. But Palmer is so young he can still run for days and is just getting started. Chelsea fans are already saying he should win the player of the year war award. In fact, fans are saying he’s one of the best players in world. Which is probably true. Especially if he keeps scoring goals from dead balls, and during the run of play.
Overall, his stats at the end of the season are going to be incredible. Goals and assists galore. Palmer is going to go down in history as one of the best Chelsea signings ever.
Finally, via ESPN: “Palmer has become the fourth player — alongside Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink — to score three Premier League hat tricks for Chelsea.” That is some good Chelsea legends company for Palmer to be in already. And he has only played 30 EPL games for Chelsea.
