Nike Courage: Everything you need is already inside.
The line is from a Killer’s song, but NIKE uses it in the video below for one of their recent commercials. The video flashes back and forth from animals racing to athletes competing – the ad even has shots of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. There’s Ronaldo breathing in deeply right before he takes a free kick.
The ad is more of a send up to the glory of sport in general, from biking to running to soccer. Like most Nike ads it’s an inspiring one, especially if you take a closer look at the last shot of the guy running.
Here’s a version from the UK of the song All These Things That I Have Done by the Killers, with the line, ‘I’ve Got Soul But I’m Not a Soldier’ that’s used in the above NIKE commercial.
It’s interesting how a phrase can gather so much steam and move so many people and sort of take on a life of its own. As it’s used in protests as a rallying chant. Robbie Williams also used the phrase in a live concert. Then the song was also used in the movie Southland Tales where Justin Timberlake lip syncs the song.
