The Houston Dynamo has sold a chunk of space on its players’ jerseys to a Houston-based electricity provider for $7.5 million as part of the team’s biggest sponsorship deal to date.
Amigo Energy has signed a four-year agreement with the Major Soccer League team. The Dynamo are now the fifth league team to sign jersey sponsors, along with Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas USA, Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC.
Team members will be sporting the new jerseys bearing the Amigo Energy logo when they play host to FC Dallas Aug. 19 at Robertson Stadium.
The Amigo Energy logo will be the dominant logo on the front of the jersey, replacing the word “Dynamo.” The smaller Dynamo crest logos will remain.
Oliver Luck, Dynamo president, said Wednesday that soccer jersey sponsor logos have proven to be a solid marketing asset.
