Knock Out Soccer Game

Field size: 30 yards by 30 yards playing area (small or bigger, depending up players level)

Number of players: entire team

Age range: 6-8

Description: Players dribble around in a square and try to keep their ball while trying to knock another player’s ball out of the square.  This drill is a little more difficult than sharks and minnows game in that it challenges young players more by having them keep their ball as they try to knock out another player’s ball.

The game has the same focus as sharks and minnows: players are working on dribbling with both feet, shielding the ball, and keeping their eyes on the ball and up, to see if a defender is trying to knock out their ball. Everyone has a ball in this game to start and tries to keep their ball but also knock out other players balls.

Put a time limit on the game if it gets down to a few players who don’t try to kick another player’s ball out of the square and are sort of hiding in the corners.  Sometimes you’ll have two or three players left who just hide in the corners with their ball and don’t try to attack another players ball.  A time limit forces these players to attack one another and kick another player’s ball out. In the end, when there’s just two players left, one player will leave their ball in the corner and then go and try to win the ball from the other player.

Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests.
