Alex Morgan Goal Versus Japan

Alex Morgan with the goal. Again it was Megan Rapinoe who supplied the fantastic pass, like she did to Abby Wambach against Brazil, this time it was a long through ball to the speedy left footer Alex Morgan, who sets herself up nicely with her first touch and smashes the soccer ball into the far corner. Goal.

It seemed like her goal would be the game winner, but of course Japan went on to, amazingly, win the game in penalty kicks. Oh yeah, don’t miss the boy in the stands celebrating Morgan’s goal by pulling up his shirt – they’re calling it the Truffle Shuffle which Chunk performs in The Goonies. He comes at the 50 second mark in the video below.

Alex Morgan scores a sensational goal on July 17th, 2011 in the 2011 World Cup Final in Frankfurt, Germany versus Japan – the first of the match to put the USWNT up 1-0. Even though she had the go ahead 2-1 Abby Wambach goal assist in extra time, the team heartbreakingly lost on penalty kicks to take the silver medal. This was only Morgan’s ninth international goal!
