Stuart Holden Injured After Jonny Evans Studs Up Tackle

Holden Evans Tackle
Brutal tackle by Evans. Hopefully Stuart Holden comes away from this with no serious damage to his knee and is able to play in the United States friendly versus Argentina this next week. Holden is one of the most talented midfielders on the U.S. team. A player who both works hard but is also creative on the ball.

However, it doesn’t look good right now, as he’s been sent to the hospital for further evaluation. See the tackle in the video below. Evans received a straight red card for the tackle.

Holden had this to say on his Twitter account:

“Thanks for all the messages of support, will keep everyone updated when I find out the extent of injury.”

Holden is having a terrific season for Bolton after missing out on the World Cup due to a Nigel de Jong tackle that broke his leg in a friendly match prior to the Cup. So, it would be hard luck to see him go down again when he’s playing so well and has so much to look forward to.

The gash in his knee makes it look ugly but as long as there’s no ligament damage then perhaps Holden could recover fairly quickly. Fingers crossed for Holden who has had a tough run with injuries during his football career.

Manchester United went on to win the match despite playing a man down, as Dimitar Berbatov scored with three minutes remaining.

Alex Ferguson had this to say about the tackle by Jonny Evans on Stuart Holden:

Sir Alex Ferguson had no complaints over the red card, which will rule Evans out of Premier League encounters with West Ham and Fulham, plus the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley on April 16. However, he insisted Evans is not a malicious player.

“The referee has seen the player had a bad injury,” said Ferguson, who watched the contest from the directors’ box as he began a five-match touchline ban. “Both players went for the same ball, with their feet raised, and Jonny caught the lad. Once you raise your feet you are putting yourself in a dangerous area. It was unfortunate but we cannot complain.”
