adidas Originals – Star Wars Cantina Scene for the 2010 World Cup

The adidas Star Wars ad: Remember the cantina scene in Star Wars? Well adidas did their own soccer version staring David Beckham. adidas Originals invites you to join David Beckham, Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, Franz Beckenbauer, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara, Jay Baruchel, DJ Neil Armstrong and some of your dear, old friends for an intergalactic 2010 FIFA World Cup viewing party that you’ll never forget.

I’ve heard the new cantina scene in the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams enlisted the help of Alexander Hamilton composer Lin-Manuel Miranda for the cantina scene. Surely this is one of the most famous scenes in Star Wars history and adidas was very smart to make a soccer ad about it with Beckham.

This great adidas commercial combines more than just Stars Wars and Adidas — it re-imagines the famous Mos Eisley Cantina scene from Star Wars Episode IV with a new cast, including Daft Punk (they won’t serve droids, but robots are fine), Snoop Dogg, Franz Beckenbauer, Stone Roses’s Ian Brown, Ciara, Noel Gallagher, Jay Baruchel, DJ Neil Armstrong and David Beckham.

Beckham quote about the importance of his family: “In my career, there’s many things I’ve won and many things I’ve achieved, but for me, my greatest achievement is my children and my family. It’s about being a good father, a good husband, just being connected to family as much as possible.”

The cast gathers in the Cantina (alongside original players Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2 and Obi-Wan Kenobi) to watch the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It started initially as a digital piece and turned into a TV spot broadcasted in the UK, Germany, Spain and the United States.
