Giovani Dos Santos to Spurs

Giovani Dos Santos to Spurs

His last name almost sounds like a shot or a drink order, ‘Dos Santos Por favor’.

The Tottenham Hotspurs are taking the drink order and for good reason. The kid, he’s just 19, can no doubt play. The Spurs have always been one of my favorite EPL sides, mainly because of Robbie Keane and his enthusiasm, but now I like them even more.

The Mexican youngster will join the Spaniard Ramos’s side and could help lift them into the top four. The Spurs were building a nice little side when Manchester United snapped up Carrick, but if they can maintain their current side (no more player leave) they’ll be an exciting team to watch next year. The Spurs also picked up Luca Modric, the Croatian forward who played for Dinamo Zagreb. He was sought by Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, so a big pick up for the club. Hopefully they won’t lose Dimitar Berbatov, who this past season was part of a number of potential trade deals with clubs like Liverpool. Berbatov wants to play in the Champions League – with Dos Santos and Modric, Spurs might just get there.

Dos Santos playing time was fading at Barcelona, as Bojan started to play well and with the addition of Henry. I think he made the right move to leave if Henry was sticking around at the Camp Nou. Giovani was starting to mimic Ronaldinho’s style of play, darting in and out of players and driving at them. Even his body shape is similar to Ronaldinho’s, a strong wide base in which to hold off players, yet quick and strong when he’s on the dribble.

Terms for the deal from SoccerNet: ‘Dos Santos signed a five-year contract for a £4.7million fee, rising to £8.6million depending on appearances.’

Oh how he’ll miss Eto’o and Ronaldinho though, especially when they set him up for goals like this. Wonderful backheel by Dinho and then the through ball by Eto’o is equally exquisite, take a look at the video below.

Dos Santos is the son of Brazilian star, Zizinho, who played for a number of Mexican clubs.
