Mallory Pugh Just Wants Ice Cream

Give Mallory Pugh her ice cream! I sure hope an ice cream company, maybe Häagen-Dazs, has decided to sponsor new NWSL soccer star Mallory Pugh. She just loves ice cream. And they’d be smart to sign her up soon before she becomes a bigger women’s soccer star.

When asked what she was going to reward herself with after she signed her NWSL contract, Pugh said probably get some ice cream. Not a new car or anything, just ice cream. Well, tubs of ice cream actually. I’m sure there’s an ice cream shop near where the Washington Spirt plays that will have a Mallory Pugh flavor soon. As much as she runs up and down the soccer field I don’t think a little post game ice cream is going to hurt her fitness levels.

Wagner: “What’s the first you’re going to treat yourself with?”

Pugh: “Probably tubs and tubs of ice cream.”

Nineteen-year-old forward Mallory Pugh, a rising star on the United States women’s national soccer team, joins Aly Wagner and Dalen Cuff to discuss joining the NWSL as a member of the Washington Spirit. (NWSL on Lifetime). Pugh’s comments about ice cream come at the end of the video below…

It’s interesting that a European club didn’t sign Pugh, but I’m sure she’ll go out on loan during the off season for a time just like Carly Lloyd and Alex Morgan. I’m sure top European clubs like Lyon, Manchester City and PSG would love to sign her.

What stands out about Pugh as a soccer player is her ability to take players on. She’s not afraid to dribble right at defenders at speed, which is a skill that’s unique in the game of soccer. Here Pugh dribbles the length of the field and scores versus Brazil when she played for the U20 national team.

Whether is the women’s or the men’s game, players who can dribble right at defenders are prized and treasured part of the game. It’s really why fans show up at the stadium to watch soccer. To see that moment where one player feints or cuts past a defender to score.

It’s no wonder that Nike Soccer announced a long-term partnership with the soccer phenom and USWNT player.

Mallory Pugh has the potential to become a huge star in not just the women’s game but in soccer in general. Surely she is going to see a lot of endorsement deals come her way. She’s so talented and skilled that she’s a joy to watch play the game. This is what Nike said about Pugh:

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Mal,” says Andrea Perez, Nike GM of Soccer for North America. “She’s an unbelievable talent and we want to work with her to inspire girls to play, as well as using her insight to help us continue to develop the most innovative equipment in the game. Together with our partnership with U.S. Soccer and the NWSL, signing Mal is another example of our commitment to being the leader in women’s soccer.”
