Cristiano Ronaldo Buyout Clause

Cristiano Ronaldo Buyout Clause

So it looks like Ronaldo’s buyout clause is bigger than Messi’s buyout clause. But these figures haven’t been updated in quite a while. I think the buyout clauses for both players have increased. I woudn’t be suprised if Messi and Ronaldo had buyout clause close to $2 billion. That numbers seems absurd though, when you look at the value of certain clubs entirely. But if you had a player like Ronaldo or Messi on your soccer team, then your club is going to jump by perhaps a billion dollars at least.

The key issue though is age, just how many years left do Ronaldo and Messi have at the top of their game. Ronaldo is now 32 and Messi is 29. So just based on age you’d have to say Messi’s buyout clause should be more than Ronaldo’s.

When they are nearing retirement though, will a club in China or maybe the MLS in the United States, cough up a buyout fee nearing $1 billion or more to have the world’s best player on their team? I think they will pay a lot of money for either of them, but I don’t think Messi will ever leave Barcelona. This article says Ronaldo’s agent puts his buyout fee at $1.5 billion, but again, this is from a few years ago, before Ronaldo helped Real Madrid win another La Liga title and the Champions League:

Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes believes the Real Madrid superstar loves the Manchester United supporters but says that his asking price currently stands at $1.5 billion.

The Portugal international was named the best player in the world for the third time in his career at the FIFA Ballon d’Or gala earlier this year and has been in exceptional scoring form for the current Liga leaders so far in the current campaign, netting 36 goals in 31 appearances.

Mendes believes several clubs would be willing to pay £300m for the 29-year-old – a figure over three times that of the current £86m world record fee, which Real paid for Gareth Bale – although he expects the 29-year-old to stay put.

"He’s the most expensive player ever in the world, because Ronaldo is the best player ever in the world, the best sportsman ever," Mendes told BBC Radio 4. "You can’t compare him to anyone.

"Cristano Ronaldo? $1.5 billion. His buyout clause is $1.5 billion, so it is $1.5 billion. It is impossible to buy someone like him.

"If for any reason the club decide to sell him tomorrow for £300m ($450m), someone will pay. He loves the Man United supporters, he told me, he started there, but he will not leave Real Madrid."

Ronaldo has a contract with Real Madrid until June 2018.
