Motta Red Card Versus Barcelona

Inter Milan midfielder Thiago Motta shouldn’t have gotten this red card. Sergio Busquets suckers the referee into giving former Barcelona player Thiago Motta a second yellow card and he’s sent off. But despite the red card to Motta, Inter Milan held on and advanced to the Champions League final.

Take a look at the play. Busquets gets caught playing a game of peek-a-boo when he removes his hands from his face! Motta is just trying to shield the ball away from Busquets when a slight elbow by Motta enables him to dive and cover his face.

Sadly, for Motta, he will now miss the Champions League final unless he’s cleared after a video review. Ironically for Barcelona and Busquets, once Inter Milan went to ten man they sat back and packed it in even more, and Barcelona couldn’t break through the defensive posture Mourinho’s side went into after the red card. If there was no red card they game would have been more open:

“It was an injustice,” Motta told Inter Channel. “Once I left the field, I saw on the replays that my opponent was on the ground peeking out to see if the referee was nearby.”

Not only did the sending off leave Inter with 10 men for over an hour, but it also means he’ll be suspended for the Final against Bayern Munich on May 22.

“This Final was my dream, which is why I still hope video evidence can clear me. Maybe the referee didn’t see, but someone else might’ve done.

“It was simply not honest from Barcelona. As the Coach said yesterday, if the players help the referee then it is easier for everyone.”
