2008 U.S. Men’s Olympic Team Roster

Peter Nowak has announced his Olympic team:

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan, Chris Seitz

Defenders: Michael Parkhurst, Maurice Edu, Michael Orozco, Marvell Wynne, Nathan Sturgis, Patrick Ianni

Midfielders: Freddy Adu, Michael Bradley, Sacha Kljestan, Stuart Holden, Danny Szetela, Benny Feilhaber.

Forwards: Brian McBride, Jozy Altidore, Charlie Davies, Robbie Rogers

Alternates: Dominic Cervi, Frankie Hejduk, Dax McCarty, Robbie Findley

A few names that were surprisingly not on the list:

Jonathon Spector, who plays in the EPL for West Ham United, and then Sal Zizzo who plays for Hanover in the German Bundesliga. Two players who play in top leagues in Europe, so seems like they should definitely be on the Olympic team. (Update: Spector needs surgery for a hip injury and that’s why he’s not on the team)

I was glad to see Benny Feilhaber on the list. He’s such a young player and was harshly criticized for a while when really he was just having a frustrating time at Derby County, where he didn’t get on the pitch for some unknown reason even though the team had the worst year ever for a EPL team and was then demoted.

The three overage players on the team are: McBride, Guzan, and Parkhurst. Some thought Landon would be on the team, but for him, I’m sure he’s glad to just get a break and focus on club ball for a while. He’s always been the American go to guy and now is probably relishing the break in some ways.

Nike with another genius ad, this one is for the Olympics:
