Ryan Shawcross Tackle on Aaron Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey sustained fractures to the tibia and fibula. Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross has been called up to the England squad for the friendly with Egypt on Wednesday. A terrible accident sees young Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey with what looks like a serious broken leg following after an “honest challenge” from Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross.

Arsenal fought back to win the match in what was an all out effort for and in the name of their teammate Ramsey. After the tackle both teams were distraught and in near tears. And a number of players, like Cesc Fabregas, were extremely upset after having already suffering through a similar situation with Eduardo.

However, the tackle by Shawcross, although reckless, wasn’t intentional. Shawcross was shown a straight red and looked to apologize and check in with Ramsey before leaving the field himself. Ramsey was stretched off and taken away in an ambulance.

This is what Arsene Wenger had to say about the Ramsey injury:

“It is a bad break, and Aaron will be transferred to hospital in London to see if emergency surgery is needed”, he said. “This is a young player who has been kicked out of the game. I’m shocked, that wasn’t football. If I have to live with that, I don’t want to be involved in the game. My players were too upset to celebrate.”

It was a brutal scene, and tough for the players to really continue to play. Shawcross was visibly shaken and saddened after the tackle.
