Steve McManaman

I’d have to say that McManaman will go down as one of my favorite players of all time. Yes, that might seem a bit lofty for a player like McManaman; he’s skillful but his skills don’t jump right out at you.

He doesn’t score a ton of goals and isn’t an expert free kick taker, but it’s his deceptiveness that makes him a classic player. He doesn’t have blazing speed yet is able to beat players on the dribble. He’s always moving, cutting, and darting around to find the ball and keep it moving. That’s probably his best quality – he can pass and move with the best of them. He’s always stirring things up and making things happen.

McManaman starred for Liverpool in one of their great periods with Robbie Fowler, Jamie Redknapp, John Barnes, Ian Rush, and others. He then went on to play for Real Madrid – a rare skinny white boy on a cast of incredible diverse and talented Galacticos.
