Watch Cristiano Ronaldo go through his warm-up routine before Portugal’s World Cup qualifying match with Russia. Ronaldo juggles with the soccer ball a little bit along with doing a few of his trademarked step overs and other dribbling moves. He then takes a few shots and free kicks.
Incidentally, Portugal lost the match 1-0, so perhaps Ronaldo might alter his routine just a bit for the next match if he’s superstitious. Oh yeah, surprisingly, Ronaldo didn’t bring out a mirror to make sure his hair gel was just right. Kidding, of course. Ronaldo is clearly one of soccer history’s greatest footballer players to ever play the game, that’s clear. If there’s a warm up routine to follow, it’s his.

And while Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t give away each and every soccer trick he’s going to use in a game, it’s a pretty extensive warm up routine. Now I’d like to see the camera focused on Messi to see what he does before a game. I’ll bet Messi doesn’t do a single step over. Make no mistake though, both these soccer players have serious exercise programs in the off season to maintain their fitness.
Of course the most famous warm up in all of football is Diego Maradona’s joyous juggling and dancing warm up routine: Diego Maradona Warm Up While Playing for Napoli
What’s more, the competition between Messi and Ronaldo only escalates as each player scores more goals and wins more games for their respective clubs and country’s. When Messi scores three goals then Ronaldo tries to at least match him with a hat trick of his own. So, I’m sure both players are only going to keep getting better and better. If you can believe it, as they are both incredible players today.
Before playing a big soccer game though Ronaldo knows that he has to get enough sleep:
“I go to bed early and get up early, especially before matches. Sleep helps my muscles to recover, which is really important,” Ronaldo said.
