Beckham Back in England Team

Beckham Back in England Team

UPDATE: ‘David Beckham has been recalled to the England squad for next week’s friendly with Brazil and the crucial Euro 2008 trip to Estonia on June 6.

The former England skipper was dumped by new coach Steve McClaren following this summer’s World Cup but after producing a series of superb performances for Real Madrid over the past few weeks, Beckham has now earned an emotional comeback.

It represents an amazing about-turn in fortune for the 32-year-old, who believed he would remain stuck on 94 caps.’ Read more…

‘Lalas, speaking on BBC Radio Five’s Sportsweek programme, said: "From a business perspective it is not the greatest news because we are selling the team with David Beckham and a lot of people are excited to see him play with the Galaxy.

"We will deal with it from a business perspective, but for us to say one of our players is representing England internationally is a great thing.’ Read more…

Beckham joins English side again? It would push the hype over the top if McClaren were to insert Beckham into the English side, and he should.

Don’t know why he hasn’t. But the insertion of Beckham into the England side, and Beckham staying with the team maybe through the European Championships, and doing well, becoming captain again! Think of it. US soccer might just erect a statue of Beckham or rename the league after him before he’s hit a bending cross or shot.

No, but really, Beckham is a class player and should be on the national team and this would be a wonderful spotlight on him and his talent. The US soccer audience seeing him as a star for his country, which has such greater weight, the passion of the game at it’s peak.

David Beckham deserves it. He’s worked hard despite being push out of the Real Madrid side and having to fight back. Then, suffering an injury, and having to fight back again. And, with all the hype surrounding his move to the MLS, he performs as a professional. I hope it happens. Who knows, McClaren might not be the coach of the English side for long unless they start improving, and the new coach hopefully will be more likely to bring him back into the fold.
