Steve Nash’s Showdown In Chinatown

A little charity event in the Big Apple become much more, as the soccer heads came out in big numbers to see some current stars of not just world football but world basketball. Two of my favorite players happened to be there, Fowler and McManaman, both legends of Liverpool. Take a look at the video below.

The 5th annual Steve Nash Foundation Showdown in Chinatown took place on June 27, 2012 at Sarah D. Roosevelt Park in New York City. The match featured international soccer stars and NBA stars, including:

Soccer players: Salomon Kalou, Robbie Rogers, Thierry Henry, Maurice Edu, Jimmy Conrad, Stu Holden, Giuseppe Rossi, Emmerson Boyce, Rod Fanni & Medhi Ballouchy

NBA players: Steve Nash, Danny Green, Grant Hill, Elton Brand and Mike Dunleavy, Jr.

List of players:

Steve Nash
Baron Davis
Jason Kidd
Thierry Henry
Gregg Berhalter
Robbie Fowler
Steve McManaman
Jozy Altidore
Raja Bell
Leandro Barbosa
Joakim Noah
Soloman Kalou
Giovanni Savarese
Claudio Reyna

What did Nash have to say about the game beforehand:

“I can’t wait,” Nash said. “Football and my foundation are two of my big passions and the chance to bring together guys like Thierry and Baron and Jason and Claudio … it’s going to be a lot of fun. And the best part is that it’s free to anyone who wants to come watch us.”

Asked about Nash’s soccer habit, Suns president Steve Kerr said: “I have no problem with it. It keeps him in shape and keeps his mind fresh.”

Henry loves this turn, not sure who’s guarding him right here. Take a look.
