Stuart Holden Goal Against Haiti

Stuart Holden scores a stunning goal in injury time to give the United States a 2-2 tie against Haiti in the Gold Cup. With the goal and the tie, the United States won the group and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup. They will Panama in the quarterfinals.

Earlier in the match, Holden, the Houston Dynamo midfielder, had a similar shot go off the underside of the crossbar. A blast that beat the keeper but didn’t cross the goal line. Holden also played a clever ball through to Davy Arnaud on the first goal – bending the ball with the inside of his foot just enough to meet Arnaud’s run. If Holden continues to play at this level it will be hard to keep him out of the World Cup side and won’t be playing in the MLS much longer.

Here’s what national team Bob Bradley had to say about Holden after the match against Haiti:

“If you look back, Stuart showed in Beijing that he is one of a group of talented young players that we feel strongly about. He was in the January camp but had a bit of an injury. As this season has moved along he has found his form and fitness, and that all led to us feeling good about bringing him in here. He is capable of playing really anywhere in the midfield, so that helps. He brings a lot of good qualities. When you look at players that are here and players that we think are going to step up and help, Stuart is one of those guys."
