Yakubu’s incredible two-yard open goal miss let the South Koreans off the hook, but the Everton striker did step up, very bravely, to slot home a penalty two minutes after this blunder. However, the 2-2 draw was not enough for Nigeria as Argentina and South Korea go through from Group B. The only explaination for Yakubu missing the open shot is fatigue or he was just too casual about the shot, or the ball was just coming faster than he expected, or it flat out failed to concentrate. Let’s just say it’s one of those reasons.
