Marcelo Tackle on Cesc Fabregas

Marcelo’s brutal tackle on Fabregas: I’m starting to wonder how Iker Casillas can play goalkeeper when he’s blind. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt though, perhaps he was too far away to see Marcelo’s tackle on Fabregas. After he’s had time to watch the reply I’m sure he’ll change his mind, but this is what he said after the game.

This was a pretty vicious tackle by the Brazilian defender Marcelo with the game winding down. I think it was the Alves tackle right before that set him off. For Marcelo’s tackle on Fabregas he was shown a red card justifiably. Casillas however, disagreed and went after his Spanish national team teammate.

Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas also played down the injury-time incident, suggesting Fabregas made the most of the situation.

“In a match like this, there are many interests and of course a conflict can arise,” said Casillas. “Marcelo committed a foul and they threw themselves to the ground, like always.”

The Marcelo tackle on Fabregas is what set off the brawl between Real Madrid and Barcelona. This is also where the famous Mourinho eye gouge took place.
