Morocco’s Best Player: Sofiane Boufal

Morocco’s best player is number 17 Sofiane Boufal. Of course Morocco has quality soccer players in Hakim Ziyech and Achraf Hakimi and goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, but their best player might just be Sofiane Boufal. The winger has been dangerous the whole World Cup tournament thus far and someone France will have to contain if they want to beat Morocco.

Boufal really came to people’s attention during the game against Spain. Where he was the most creative and skillful player on the pitch.

While Spain’s Marcos Llorente suffered the most in trying to stop Boufal he was not the only one. Boufal destroyed poor Pedri on this play, for example. You’d think Spain would have done some scouting on Boufal and known just how skillful on the ball he was…

And in the game versus Portugal in the quarterfinals Boufal put on a show as well. Talk about confidence on the ball. Boufal has it. Helping to put his team through to the semifinals.

It is interesting overall to look under the hood so to speak of the Moroccan team. You start to realize they have a lot of quality just by seeing how many players they have who play in Europe for big clubs.

Morocco has player on teams like Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla, Bayern Munich, Marseille, and Fiorentina. What’s more though, is almost every football player plays for a team in Europe. They have a lot of experience competing in tough leagues.

Boufal himself players for Angers in Ligue 1 in France. But after his run in the World Cup in Qatar surely he’ll end up playing for a big club.

Boufal was born in Paris to Moroccan parents. It will be quite the match when Morocco takes on France in the semi-finals.
