Sometimes I Ask Myself If Lionel Messi Is Human

Former FC Barcelona player Thierry Henry has always been passionate when it comes to FC Barcelona. The French striker enjoyed a wonderful spell at the club, and especially in the 2008/09 season, when he joined forces with Samuel Eto’o and Leo Messi in an attack that won all six major trophies and wowed the world with some of the finest football ever seen. Henry still keeps a close eye on events at the Camp Nou and is thoroughly looking forward to February, when the other club closest to his heart, Arsenal, meet the Catalans in the Champions League.

Thierry Henry: “Sometimes I ask myself if Messi is human”. Of course Messi has been called many things or compared to many different things, since his play on the field is so unbelievable at times.

Famously, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told the Guardian that Messi was like a computer creation. “He’s like a PlayStation,” he said. I think he can take advantage of every mistake you make. Barcelona are a very good side but of course they have Messi who can make the difference at any moment in the game.”

Speaking to Barça TV and he was particularly gushing with admiration when the name of Leo Messi came up. “All we can do is enjoy what he does” he said. “Because what he’s doing is not normal …We used to say that a player who got 23-25 goals in a season was an incredible striker. But Messi does that in three months”.

What’s interesting about the Messi story is how when he was growing up in Argentina he was diagnosed with a growth hormone disorder. The treatments were expensive and his family couldn’t afford them, which is one of the reasons why he signed with Barcelona. They agreed to pay for the treatments which ensured that Messi’s growth rate would not diminish. So, in some ways, Messi is a bit of a superhero or comic strip type character similar to Spiderman. Messi does have a heart, or at least something beating in his chest.
