Victor Lindelof Arms Behind Back Defending

Still don’t get why players are still doing this. Here, Manchester United’s Lindelof facing off against Manchester City’s Phil Foden puts his arms behind his back to avoid drawing a penalty kick if the ball goes off his arm. But how do you defend, move lateral to block a shot say with your feet, when your arms are behind your back! Seems like it only makes it harder to defend.

And this isn’t the first time that Lindelof has defended like this against a Manchester City player no less. He did it against David Silva, too. Arms behind the back defending is like giving up already and saying you can’t win the ball or stop the player attacking but have to passively just try to avoid a penalty kick.

Here are the Manchester City versus Manchester United highlights.

Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez scored two apiece as Manchester City smashed archrivals Manchester United 4-1 to remain in command of the Premier League title race.
